large White Rabbit weathervane mounted on the Bedford Hotel

Some buildings already have an ideal architectural feature, which is simply crying out for a weathervane, like a clock tower or cupola. Other buildings do not. It is important to locate your weathervane away from chimneys and t.v. aerials, in order to give visual "breathing space", and avoid clutter.

weathercock and 3 foot copper spire mounted on a defunct telegraph post.Determining the size and location of the weathervane often depends on the shape of the roof. If a weathervane is located too low, or is sheilded by other buildings or trees, it may not give an accurate reading of wind direction. With most English roofs, it is necessary to drill through a ridge tile, allowing for the 15mm stainless steel to attach to a cross-member within the roof.

two seperate barns with two seperate weathervanes, a barn owl & a pair of leaping dolphinsWeathervanes can look great almost anywhere, whether on an outbuilding, cupola, or even a post! Some clients prefer to install the weathervane on an outbuilding, so that they can look out the window and catch glimpses of it...and some like more than one!

gilt copper hawk weathervane mounted on circular roof, with ornate lead flashing

Our standard bracket, which we strongly recommend, requires access within the structure of the roof. Decorative lead work or flashing, is a beautiful finishing touch. Weathervanes mounted on the primary building are a stunning feature.Where access inside the roof is not possible, a custom bracket can be produced.

In many cases we are happy to visit the site, work from architectural plans or photographs,
or liase directly with your builder or contractor.
Because each building or location is different, Greens are happy to discuss installation options,
so that your purchase perfectly compliments it's new home.
